Today in Room 7 we got to measure the temperatures of 5 different liquids. We had: nearly boiling water, hot water from the tap, cold water from the tap, milk from the fridge and icy water.
First we checked the scale used on the thermometer. Then we had to estimate what temperature we thought the 5 liquids would be. Next we used a thermometer to measure the temperatures.
So what did we find out?
1. The icy water was -1ºC.
2. The milk was 10.9ºC.
3. The cold water from the tap was 18ºC.
4. The hot water from the tap was 27ºC.
5. The near boiling water was 60ºC.
Then we made comparisons.
Just for fun we went to the staff room and put a thermometer in boiling water. We were amazed at how quickly the mercury shot up the thermometer! Then we plunged it into icy water and the mercury dropped down rapidly.
Who said, "Maths isn't fun!"?
